Downtown in a Small Town
In the country, people move a lot slower than they do in the city. People from the country think life is better this way.
Even downtown in the country, they move slower than they do in the city.
There aren’t many things to do, so people don’t have to move quickly to the next thing all the time. Last weekend, we went downtown to do some important things.
Families often go for a walk downtown, too. We saw our friend and her new baby, when we went this weekend. She had the baby three months ago. Some people go downtown, just to see people.
We went to the local bakery. This little shop is fun because we know the baker. Last weekend, he gave us some fresh bread, and it was fantastic.
We also went to the coffeeshop to talk to the baristas and drink some coffee. They made us some delicious coffee, and we drank it all and asked for more.
And we needed flowers, so we went to see the florist. He knows about the right flowers for different situations. And because we know the florist, we can trust him.
A good barber is sometimes hard to find, and that is why it’s important to have one in a small town. And because I found a good barber I can trust, I continue to go back to him. I got a very nice haircut this weekend from my barber.
One thing that is very common in small towns is to see children playing. We felt safe to bring our daughter to play downtown this weekend because we know most of the people.
Children often ride their bikes downtown together, and parents are mostly okay with that. Last weekend, our son rode bikes with his friends downtown, too.
We also went to the ice cream shop downtown. I think we all ate a lot of ice cream because it was so hot!
In the middle of many small towns, there is a place called the “town square,” or “plaza.” People go here in the afternoons and evenings to spend time and to see friends. We spent time in the plaza this weekend with our son and our friends.
And in the evening, a man played his guitar in the streets of downtown. It was nice to sit and watch him. He was a fantastic guitar player!
And finally, at the end of the weekend, we went back home. Our weekend downtown was a lot of fun, and maybe next weekend we will go again.
