Sunflowers
This giant field of sunflowers is beautiful to look at. The yellow petals are very bright!
The brilliant yellow petals are amazing to look at.
Sunflowers have three parts: the flower, the leaves and the stem. All three parts are important for the sunflower’s survival.
The yellow petals of the flower bring bees to help the sunflower reproduce.
The leaves get energy from the sun. They are very big because sunflowers need a lot of energy.
And the stem is thick enough to keep the whole flower up. It has to be strong because it is a big flower.
People grow sunflowers for their seeds. Many people and animals eat the seeds.
Sunflower oil is also made from the seeds. People use sunflowers to make a lot of things.
Do you know why they are called sunflowers?
They are called sunflowers because they face the sun. In the morning, the flower turns to see the sunrise.
They continue to look at the sun as the day goes on. These flowers are looking up at the sun.
And at the end of the day, the flowers’ faces are at the sunset.
At night they look down and get ready for the sunrise again.
Sunflowers require a lot of sun. Sunflowers are one reason summer is so beautiful.
