Rain in the PNW
This is a region in the United States and Canada called “Cascadia.” But most people call it the Pacific Northwest, or the PNW.
In the PNW, it rains a lot. It rains more days than it is sunny.
A lot of people don’t like the rain because they can’t go outside and it makes them sad.
But even though rain has a lot of negatives, it also has a lot of benefits.
Rain makes everything green. Trees and grass need rain to grow, and so a lot of rain is good for them.
The crops are green, too.
In the PNW, it rains a lot from November until April or May. This means during the winter months everything becomes green.
When it rains on the coast, it snows in the mountains.
The environment needs the snow from the mountains because from the snow, comes rivers.
And rivers and waterfalls run all year long.
From May until September, the rain is less frequent, and the weather is more sunny. There’s not as much water for the environment, but the rivers help.
Because the snow in the mountains melts, the rivers continue to run all year long. All of this snow helps the PNW stay green from the rivers.
Even though the rain makes it more difficult to go outside, it is very good for the environment in the PNW.
So, as many people do in the PNW, put on a rain jacket, get an umbrella and some boots, and go play outside.
What other option do you have? It may rain for a long time.
