What to study: English or Science?

This is Armando. He is an advisor at the university to help students decide what to study.

He meets with a lot of people to give them advice about what they should or should not study.

Sometimes, Armando meets them online if they can’t to come to his office. These meetings are very convenient.

Most of the time, he meets with people in person. This is a meeting between Armando and Ophelia, a student at the university. This is their conversation.

“So, Ophelia, how can I help you?”
“I am very confused. I don’t know what to study at this university. Everything is so interesting!”
“I am very confused. I don’t know what to study at this university. Everything is so interesting!”

“Okay, Ophelia, that is a good thing. Let’s talk about your career. What do you want to do for a career?”
“I either want to be a Dentist or an English Teacher.”
“Very interesting. To be a dentist, you need to study science, and to be an English teacher, you need to study English.”
“I either want to be a Dentist or an English Teacher.”
“Very interesting. To be a dentist, you need to study science, and to be an English teacher, you need to study English.”

“Which classes do you like more?”
“I like the English classes more because we can talk more about ideas, but science classes feel more natural to me. My grades are a lot better in science.”
“I can understand that. What year of university are you in?”
“I like the English classes more because we can talk more about ideas, but science classes feel more natural to me. My grades are a lot better in science.”
“I can understand that. What year of university are you in?”

“This is my second year of university.”
“Okay, that is a good thing. Do you think both science classes and English classes will help you in the future?”
“I think they both help. But I have to choose one or the other, right?”
“Okay, that is a good thing. Do you think both science classes and English classes will help you in the future?”
“I think they both help. But I have to choose one or the other, right?”

“No, you can wait until next year if you want. And if you want to, you can study both.”
“I can? Will it take more time to graduate?”
“No, and if you study both, dentist schools will like that. Dentist schools like good writers.”
“I can? Will it take more time to graduate?”
“No, and if you study both, dentist schools will like that. Dentist schools like good writers.”

“That’s a good idea, Armando. I think I will study both Science and English.”
“I’m really glad we talked, Ophelia. Have a great rest of the year!”
